You can have a lot of traffic coming to your website, but if they are not interested in your product or service, what good will it do to have them visit your site?

If you do a search on the Internet for ways to increase traffic to your site, you will find websites that sell software or monthly membership packages that promise to bring traffic to your site. Don’t be fooled by these costly gimmicks. There are many ways you can increase traffic to your site for free.

What these companies don’t tell you is that one of the methods they use to drive traffic to your site is paying people to “surf” the Internet. People log into a website, enter a password and their computer will automatically “surf the net”, displaying different websites. Your website should contain different email addresses for different contact requests. For example, use info@yourdomain.com for information requests, or sales@yourdomain.com for questions about sales. It's a good idea to set up one for the owner, such as president@yourdomain.com. This presents your company in a personal, approachable light and insures that direct contact is provided.

Autoresponders are an effective and powerful marketing tool, allowing you to make contact with thousands of potential customers. A USP - Unique Selling Proposition - has been around for years. It is what a business says that they do differently.

There has been many definititions, depending on who you talk to, of how to express a USP, what should or should not be included, etc.

For large companies it is often vague, and for small companies it can be unclear, not followed, and unrealistic.

Mark Joyner has wrote a book about this, and renamed the USP as the TIO - The Irresistable Offer.
"..it's the beast (and maybe only) true alternative to the traditional form of selling with its sentimental manipulation, marketing trickery, and decreasing effectiveness. The Irresistable Offer is so good and so easy to understand that buying from you becomes a no-brainer for your customers. But it's not a one-time special or a 'unique selling proposition.' A couple good examples:

It also has to convey what you do clearly to your customer - no questions asked.

And it has to incorporate a guarantee somehow. It does not have to so it outright, but does have to imply it in the wording.

It really should define your business and make you focus on what your business really does for the consumer.

In that three seconds - one . . . . . two . . . . . three . . . . . - that the consumer sees your business, talks to you, reads your add, clicks on your website - before their mind goes racing back to whatever else they are doing - it positions you in their subconscious. So that if they need your service, your product - they will chose you over anyone else.

Amazon was one of the first, and still one of the biggest online companies that drives business to its' site using affiliates.

Is the online affiliate market the way to go? You will never know unless you take the necessary steps. If you never try, then you cannot expect to succeed. Make today the day that you commit to changing the direction of your life. Keep in mind, however, that affiliate marketing cannot guarantee you instant success if you don’t work at it.

But before you succeed in affiliate marketing, you need to spend a little bit of money so you can reap the reward later. Through proper budgeting, your investment can be lower.

Now that you know you must spend some money, it's time to decide how much money you can afford to invest in your affiliate marketing business.

There are some expenses that you will have if you want to be successful. There are others that you can put off until the time you start earning income from your affiliate products. Some items that you will need to budget:

Domain Name. You must have a domain name. The domain name should relate to the subject. Keep your domain name simple and easy to remember. There is quite a span between the low-cost and the high-end cost of domain names. If you shop around, you may even be able to find something less expensive. Merchant Account. You don’t have to invest thousands of dollars to open a merchant account. Find a merchant account vendor through a local financial institution, like a bank, and discuss the possibilities that will best suit your business and your customers.

A merchant account will let you start accepting credit card payments for customer purchases, which will enhance the shopping experience for most customers and earn your company a progressive reputation. Never assume you will have extravagant monthly charges when you open a merchant account. Shop around, ask questions, and compare costs to get the best low cost merchant account available for your business. Your customers will thank you with repeat and additional business.

An excellent alternative is using payment processors like PayPal and 2checkout. And Clickbank can also be a all-in-one source of products and payment.

Software and Scripts. You will need spreadsheet software to track your expenses and income from your affiliate business. This is a suite of tools that works like Microsoft Office. You may or may not need website scripts depending on how elaborate you want your website to be. Many of the top line companies that offer affiliate programs provide excellent resource for tracking their own sales, but if you sell from multiple companies, you will want something to put all that information together.

Advertising. The best marketing tip you will ever hear is to advertise your product or business. In today's market, anyone in business knows that advertising is the backbone to your success. Even with the greatest product on the planet, a product that you know everyone needs and wants, without advertising, it's just an idea going nowhere. Education. Ongoing education is going to be extremely important to your affiliate marketing success. You will not have to purchase a lot of educational materials if you don't want to. There are many free resources, such as newsletters, that you can study.

Seeing your expenses for the whole year is a great way to keep them under control. What is the final total? Does that seem extreme? Remember, this is for an entire year. Keep it in perspective. Even if they don't mean anything, it still feels good to get them.

At TurboCommunity John gives us 'Mana Points' for posting in the forum. Yes the top person with mana points gets a great prize (their Turbo membership paid that month), but the rest of us don't get anything.

If you are working out of your home, set up an area seperate from the living quarters. Include not only your home office are, but also room for storage, clients, and anything else relating to running your business.

This will give you a more professional look when clients visit, it will make you feel better about your business, and help you manage business vs family time and duties.

The make sure when you 'go to work' that you focus on working. Let your spouse and kids know that work time is seperate from family time. This way you will be more productive, and have a increased sense of accomplishment.

Consider also setting up a seperate phone line for business. Some phone companies offer a 'smart ring' service that offers a seperate number, that has a distinct ring. This will save you some money over a seperate phone line.

As an alternative to using your phone line for incoming faxes, check out the various fax-to-email services that are offered. These services assign you a new phone number for your fax line, and the faxes will then come in your email inbox.

Also be sure calculate the portion of home expenses you use for business and declare this as a write-off on your income taxes.

Pdf Conversion tips

Which of the vast array of pdf converters actually will convert all your links in one easy task, along with links in images, and create a secure pdf?

Open Office does it. I downloaded and installed it, and it is a dream to use.

That was the one thing I didn't like about PDF995 is that you either had to have your links in http or www format (not text with an underlying link), or else add the links one by one after it was created.

Also, it would not pick up the links attached to images.

I also tried Primopdf and Win2pdf, and neither of these did the job either.

But Open Office will put whatever link is in the document into the pdf. And it also automatically adds security to stop copy and pasteing.

That is nice, as many times I like to go back and edit the document, add more links, change links, etc. And now, all I do is make the change in the document, export to PDF, and presto - out pops a perfect pdf, secure, with links attached!

Back from Long Weekend Harvesting

As I said previously - your website must have a purpose.

I am sitting here listening to the great Jim Edwards - and he is promoting Mini-sites. And the one thing he says is that mini-sites must have one of 3 main purposes!!

1 - To gather names and email address - opt-in - build your list!!

2 - To sell an item

3 - To promote and drive traffic toward an affiliate program.

Mini-sites should have only one of these Primary purposes. You want people to either do what you want - or go away. Buy or not buy. Subscribe or not subscribe.

If you fail at your primary purpose - you can have your secondary purpuse kick in - but don't show your cards until you have given them the primary purpose option and they have made a decsion.

My choice is that you should always have gaining subscribers as a primary purpose. This may take longer to make quick cash, but builds long term customers that you can sell to over and over.

Focus! - Does your Customer know what to do?

Many many websites have no real purpose, at least from a customer point of view. I am sure the people behind them have some idea of what they would like that website to do, but if it is not apparent to the person visiting the site - then your website has not done its job.

So how do you make sure customers know what to do. First put yourself in their mind, and get out of your ego. A website is not to brag about your business. Whether the website is to sell goods, get email address, or build a relationship with your client, then make sure it does that.

And don't try to do all things with one website. Individual sites work best for individual tasks.

How long can I wait!

Many people starting a new business, or even a new venture in their existing business want immediate results.

They hear reports of people making the big money, of the huge successes out there, how easy it is. The internet is the fast easy money! Everything has changed and is on steroids!

Well it ain't so. Sure you can have good success quickly at times, but it depends what you start with. Almost all 'overnight successes' put in long hours working before they were ever a success.

So how long will it take to see results?

It does take a long time, and for everyone, that 'long time' is different, depending on their business model, their actions, and their effort.

At least longer than most people expect.

What I would suggest is not focus on the money, but focus on things like the members you are adding to your list, the changes and updates to your website, the articles you have written and sent out. By focusing on these things, you will see that you have done alot of good work that is producing results. Also watch your traffic to your sites, try to keep it growing slowly but consistently.

Also, take advantage of this time to really focus on the people that sign up for your list. Make them feel very special at you will be rewarded.

Make it a point every day to do some activity that is geared towards sales. Some new thing that will bring in people to your website. As time goes on, this will have a cumulative effect that will make your business grow exponentially.

And don't give up!
